Apprentices are the foundation of Amada UK corporate strategy to develop from within...

This week we highlight and celebrate our current apprentices and those now taken on full time. Meet some of the many talented individuals of Amada UK.

"Apprenticeships are an effective way of discovering future talent, addressing skills shortages and developing careers across core parts of our business. Our apprenticeship scheme fosters well-trained, highly skilled staff that bring real and measurable value to the business and ultimately contribute to our customers' success. The growth and success of any business depends on its workforce, and equipping the right people with the right skills will future proof our organisation.- Paul Mansfield, Managing Director Amada UK

Apprenticeships For All

Apprentices are the foundation of Amada UK corporate strategy to develop from within.  Although Engineering apprenticeships are the most common, we also have had graduates within our Customer Service, Business Administration, Accounts and Marketing departments, making the inclusion of apprentices across the company hugely important.

Development of all our future talent whatever the role or department is supported by Herefordshire & Worcestershire Group Training Association and of course by Amada's managers and staff throughout.  100% of apprentices that have successfully completed the apprenticeship have been offered a full time career.

Amada Careers Not Just Apprenticeships

Introducing Ryan Field, Ryan joined Amada UK as an apprentice over 10 years ago and has progressed to Export Sales Manager for Amada Scandinavia. Ryan's path has been varied, as it is for all our apprenticeships, from a year Herefordshire & Worcestershire Group Training Association through Tooling, Refurbishment, Installations and Consultant Engineering which lead him to where he is now in export sales.

"Amada has consistently opened avenues of opportunities for me to learn and travel. Always taking the time for me to develop. With my latest sales role I'm excited to think where it may lead next" - Ryan Field.

Every Amada apprentice takes a different path, finding the best fit for their talents is always important.

Apprenticeships That Challenge

Introducing Dan McCulloch, Dan is in his 2nd year apprenticeship at Amada UK and as part of his development he was challenged to design, cut, bend and help assemble this laser nozzle storage cabinet.  By using both VPSS blanking and bending software, the latest Regius Fibre Laser and the HRB Pressbrake in the Technical Centre, it has allowed him to stretch his knowledge within just the first 6 weeks of placement in the Consultant Engineering Department.

"Learning new skills and putting them to practical use has helped my understanding of what the machines can do and also has given me a better understanding of what customers expect.  The project has allowed me to find problems and understand how to fix them" - Dan McCulloch, Apprentice

Career Progression

Introducing Adam Carless, Adam is another former apprentice who has developed a vast wealth of experience whilst working within the company.  Adam joined Amada in 2011 and spent his apprenticeship years at Herefordshire & Worcestershire Group Training Association, consultant engineering, software and the final 2 years with refurbishment.  His following years were spent in the field, installing, scheduled servicing and attending breakdowns on machines.  His latest role is back at Amada Technical Centre in Consultant Engineering.

"The work I do within my role changes day by day, from running a team of engineers delivering technical support for sales to talking one to one with customers to provide the ideal solution for their needs. One of the best aspects of my job is supporting and developing the next generation of apprentices. Their confidence goes from strength to strength during their time with us." - Adam Carless, Team Leader

Rewarding Apprenticeships

Introducing Ben Rogers, Ben is one of our third year Engineering apprentices, who has  recently become Amada UK Apprentice of the Year 2023.  The Dean Wilkinson Cup is presented each year to a current apprentice from any year, who has gone above and beyond.  Ben is always first to volunteer, embrace any task he is set and has grown in confidence and ability year on year. Amada's level 3 apprentices also study for the HNC in Engineering in years 3 and 4 which is fully supported and funded by Amada. An excellent career as an Amada Engineer lies ahead.

"I am thoroughly enjoying my apprenticeship at Amada, the variety of different departments I have worked in has helped me progress.  Winning the apprentice of the year is a great honor and I'm really proud of what I have achieved so far. With the help from Herefordshire & Worcestershire Group Training Association and support from my colleagues at Amada, graduating next year is my next target." - Ben Rogers, Apprentice
